Sidewalk Main Street, Orono, Background: At the March 5, 1980, meeting, the Public Works Committee consid- ered concerns expressed by the Orono Chamber of Commerce, resulting in the passing, and subsequent adopted, of Resolution # W-23-80: "ThAT the recommendation in Report WD-23-80, relative to correspondence from the Orono and Arpa Chamber of Commerce, be endorsed, and: I. During 1980, restoration to def- icient sidewalk sections on the east side of Main Street, Orono, north of the Town Hall, be carried out. 2. The matter of upgrading of curbs in the business section of Orono be referred to the Regional Mun- icipality of Durham Works Department for comment. V Upon completion and adoption of the Development Plan for the Villnge of Orono a review of parking be under- taken In order to determine the necessity and feasibility of off-- street parking facilities. During the NO Road Inspection Tour, those present viewed the sidewalk on 0- east side of the main street, north of the Town Ball in oronn The matter rulpvnnt to vximing ru •b lorallons and o1vvnL1ow:; has been discussed with staff Q Durham Region who recognize, in their Necis, that "no deficiency exists at the present Lime", and, thereforn., no funds have been allotted for same this year. 2 (f If curbs we;e to be reconstruc ced on the east side of the street, they could be located approximately two feet west of those now existing, t:i€€.€;s allowing addlVi"M boulevard width and possibly alleviating Me problems presently being experienced (i.e. from a rather narrow boulevard, to the sidewalk, there is a 24" to 30" step). In view of the foregoing the `1'own may wish to determine when sidewalk reconstruction could he scheduled, and then the Region could again be approached regc rdIng the curb reconstruction. Recommendation TliNP sidewalk recor€at€ruction on the east side of Main Street, Orono, north of the Town Hall, be recommended and considered in the 1981 Budget and, further, that Lho Region of Durham be re- quested to consider curb reconstruction during 1951, in a location mutually agreed upon, which course of action will alleviate the present access from back of curb to the sidewalk.
