Subject: Gravel Removal - Lot 2, Concession 8,
former Township of Darlington.
Background:
The attached correspondence, from Mr. Herbert Visser, was ref-
erred by the Town Clerk for a report and recommendation to the
Public Works Committee.
In 1974 an application was made for the extraction of 15,000 tons
of. gravel per year, and the operators are now requesting a perman-
ent increase in tonnage to 195,000 tons per year.
Report:
The subject property is geographically located in Lot 2, Concess-
ion 8, former Darlington, on the south side of Regional Road 20,
from which access is obtained to the Pit.
From a transportation viewpoint, it would appear that the requested
permanent increase in gravel extraction would be of more concern
to the Region of Durham, and will have little, if any, impact on
the Town of Newcastle.
Recommendation:
THAT the application be forwarded to the Regional Municipality of
Durham with a request for comments on the proposed increase in the ,
extraction of aggregates from Lot 2, Concession 8, former Township
of Darlington and, further, if such comments are favourable, then
the request be approved by the Town of Newcastle.
