Subject: Old Highway 2 and Improvements to Highway 35/115.
Background:
The Ministry of Transportation & Communications is proposing to
improve Highway 35/115 from Highway 401 northerly to, and inc-
luding, the Highway 2 interchange.
On February 5, 1980, the Ministry held a public information
centre in order that the property owners and tenants within the
the limits of proposed construction could view and discuss the
design proposals.
As a result of the public information centre, the Ministry of
Transportation & Communications received the attached corres-
pondence, which was subsequently referred to this Department.
Report:
Reference is made to the section of Highway 2, south of the ex-
isting Highway 2, at Highway 35/115, and this portion of road is
now under the jurisdiction of the Town of Newcastle. It is approx-
imately 1,800 feet in length and fronts eight (8) existing homes.
The original surface of the road, known as Old Highway 2, is of
concrete which, years ago, was surface-treated; presently it is
considered to require some restoration. There is no cul-de-sac
at the point where this section of road terminates, and the
correspondent is requesting that one be installed.
Recommendation:
WHEREAS Old Highway 2 at 35/115 Highway is not scheduled for
reconstruction, therefore restoration be by way of normal main-
tenance and, further, that in view of the. low A.A.D.T. , a cul-
de-sac not be installed.
