HomeMy WebLinkAboutWD-18-80 TOWN 'OF NEWCASTLE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT Director's Report to Public Works Committee. Item: WD-18-80. Date: February do-, 1980. Subject: Tyrone Community Centre. Background; The attached correspondence from the Tyrone Community Centre Board was referred, by the Town Clerk, for a report to the Public Works Committee. The Board :[.,,; requesting improvements to, or replacement of, various items including: Sidewalks, Street Lights, Storm Sewers, Trees and Curbs (along the entranceway to the Centre) . Report: Of the abovementioned items, Sidewalks and Street Lights are the responsibility of the Town of Newcastle. At the present time, no funds have been allocated for new sidewalks in Tyrone, and Street Lights are funded by way of Local Improvements. The road itself, together with Storm Sewers, Trees and Curbs, fall under t-he jurisdiction of the Regional Municipality of Durham. It is felt that, until a design plan for improvement to the road is under consideration by the Region, any proposal for new Sidewalks would be premature; the Curbs, it is suggested, could be a matter for joint consideration between the Region and the Tyrone Community Centre Board. Recommendatt.on: WHEREAS the Main Street through Tyrone is the responsibility of the Region of Durham, the matters of Storm Sewers, Tree replacement and Concrete Curbs be referred directly to that Agency and, further, that the Tyrone Community Centre Board be advised of Town Policy regarding Street Lights and that, whereas some sections of Sidewalks may be deficient, these be considered when finances permit.
