Item: Correspondence from Mr. Garry Thompson.

Subject: Access to Orono Arena
Background:
The attached correspondence expresses concerns regarding
access to the Orono Arena.
Report:
Access to the Orono Arena is by way of Princess Street and/
or Rowe Street. Due to the location of Rowe Street in
relation to the Arena property, the prime access is via
Princess Street to the parking lot.
Princess Street, from Station Street to the Arena and
Fairgrounds, has a low-cost bitumous syrface approximately
14 ft. in width. Rowe Street is somewhat similar.
The concerns expressed in the letter from Mr. Thompson were
also voiced prior to the actual construction of the Arena.
It is my opinion that Princess Street cannot be widened due
to the proximity of existing properties.
The feasibility of making Princess and Rowe Streets into
One-Way Streets would necessitate discussions with the Fair
Board, who would, presumably, have opinions and input.
Recommendation:
THAT the subject matter be investigated and comments from
the Orono Fair Board and Arena Committee be invited.
