Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the Council approve the following:
1 . THAT Report CD-5-96 be received;
2. THAT the by-law attached to Report CD-5-96 be approved, authorizing the
Mayor and Clerk to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with the
Steering Committee for the "Build Courtice" at such time as the document is
finalized to the satisfaction of the Mayor and the solicitor; and
3. THAT Muriel Krizanc be advised of Council's decision.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT
During the Christmas season, the Steering Committee for "Build Courtice" delivered to
the Clerk a Memorandum of Understanding for execution by the Mayor and Clerk
which had been prepared by the Committee's solicitor. This document is to be
submitted to the Province by the Steering Committee as part of their application for a
Charitable Organization Number. In reviewing the document, it was determined that
the Mayor and Clerk had not been given the authority to execute same and some
questions arose pertaining to the content thereof. The Clerk and the solicitor are
working on finalizing the document with the solicitor for the Committee, however, it is
not yet complete.

In order to assist the Committee in receiving their Charitable Organization Number as
quickly as possible, it is respectfully requested that Council authorize the Mayor and
Clerk to execute the document once it is finalized to the satisfaction of the Mayor and
the solicitor.

being a by-law to authorize the entering
into of a Memorandum of Understanding with
the Steering Committee for "Build Courtice"
THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON
ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. THAT the Mayor and Clerk are hereby authorized to execute on behalf of the
Corporation of the Municipality of Clarington and seal with the Corporations's
seal, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Steering Committee for
"Build Courtice" and the said Corporation, attached hereto as Schedule A and
forming part of this by-law.
By-law read a first and second time this 15th day of January 1996.
By-law read a third time and finally passed this 15th day of January 1996.
