Stibject: TAXI SERVICES CONTRACT
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Addendum to Report CD-24-96 be received;
2 . THAT Report CD-24-96 be lifted from the table and received;
3. THAT the Taxi Services Contract attached to Report CD-24-96 be
amended by deleting the following words therefrom:
"Price will vary in rate outside Bowmanville"
and be approved as amended; and
4. THAT Mr. Ralph Stender be advised of Council's decision.
REPORT:
At the General Purpose and Administration meeting held on May 6, 1996,
Report CD-24-96 was tabled after concern was raised over the wording of
the Contract. Section 14 of By-law 74-72 permits Contracts to be
entered into for an agreed tariff between fixed points . The Contract
stipulated, "Prices will vary in rate outside of Bowmanville" . Because
the Contract did not state what the rate would be outside Bowmanville it
was not in compliance with the By-law.
Staff have spoken to Mr. Stender about this matter and he has agreed to
delete this reference from the Contract. A copy of the Amended Contract
is attached hereto.
Staff, therefore, respectfully recommend that the Contract of Service be
approved.

Subject: TAXI SERVICES CONTRACT
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1 . THAT Report CD-24-96 be received;
2 . THAT the Taxi Services Contract attached to Report CD-24-96 as
Attachment No. 1, be approved; and
3 . THAT Mr. Ralph Stender be advised of Council' s decision.
REPORT:
Mr. Ralph Stender, owner of Clarington Taxi, has submitted for
Council' s approval, a copy of a Taxi Services Contract between his
company and Clarington Brake Products . The contract is to provide
transport for customers of Clarington Brake Products who require a
ride home after bringing in their vehicles for service . A copy of the
contract is attached to this Report .
Taxi operations within the Municipality are governed by Clarington
Taxi By-law 74-72 . Section 14 of the By-law requires that taxi
operators charge the stipulated Tariff rate for customers and
prohibits any other reductions or special prices except;
"an owner and a customer may enter into a contract, in
writing for services to extend for the period of one year or
more on runs between fixed points at an agreed tariff, but a
duplicate original of such contract must first be filed with
and approved by the Council . "
The attached Contract appears to contain all the necessary information
and was originally set to run for one calendar year from date of
signing.
