Rena men ®nis respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report CD-4-95 be received for information.
REPORT:
In July 1994 Council authorized staff to acquire an Engineer's Report
and Noise Study on the activities of the outdoor range at the Marksman
Club of Oshawa. On October 11, 1994 staff brought the results of that
study to Council . At that time Council tabled the Report:
"to allow staff the opportunity to meet with members of the
Marksman Club of Oshawa and Mr. Steve Jansma to determine whether
the noise levels can be decreased at the site by implementing some
recommendations contained in the Noise Assessment Study. "
Staff have since spoken to the Club President and been advised that the
Regional Police have ceased using the range. The President, Mr. Neely,
met with staff on December 29, 1994 . He advised that at present his
club members are no longer using the outdoor range. The Club intends to
experiment with different types of shotguns and lighter ammunition loads
in an effort to bring the noise level down to acceptable limits . He
stated that the Club wishes to conduct another noise study in the
spring.
