THAT Report CD-25-94 be received; 2 . THAT the Designated Property Grant Application submitted by G. Worsley, Secretary-Treasurer, on behalf of the Newcastle Community Hall Board in the amount of $3 , 000 . 00, be approved in principle; 3 . THAT the funds required be taken from the Miscellaneous Clearing Account #1003-00015-0000; and 4 . THAT Ms . G. Worsley, Mrs . Diana Grandf ield, Chairman, Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee and the Ministry of Culture and Communications, be advised of the actions taken. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: The Newcastle Community Hall, King Street East, Newcastle, Ontario, was designated as a heritage property in June 1993 . The cost of the work has been identified in the amount $5, 000 to refurbish the original wood floor in the main floor east room. An application has been filed for a grant in the amount of $3, 000 . 00 to assist in offsetting the costs associated with the project . Grants are available to owners of designated properties under the Ministry of Culture and Communications "Designated Property Grant Program" to cover 50 percent of the cost of the project, to a maximum of $3 , 000 . 00 per year. The Ministry has indicated that funds are available and it is appropriate that this application, which meets the program' s grant criteria, be processed at this time . Report CD-25-94 - 2 - July 4, 1994 For Committee' s information, I advise that funding for the program requires that the Municipality pay the grant portion (first having determined that the works have been property completed) and then make application to the Heritage Branch of the Ministry of Culture and Communications for reimbursement . The Municipality can obtain full recovery plus 10 percent to cover the administrative cost . The Treasurer has indicated that funds pertaining to designated property grants would be taken from the Miscellaneous Clearing Account $#1003-00015-0000 . Once the work has been completed and inspected by L.A. C.A.C. , a subsequent report will be forwarded to the Committee authorizing payment of the grant .
