THAT Report CD-24-91 be received; 2 . THAT a Designated Property Grant in the amount of $3,000 . 00 be approved for the Masonic Lodge; 3. THAT the funds required be taken from the Miscellaneous Clearing Account 1003-00015-0000; and 4 . THAT the Ontario Heritage Foundation, Mr. William Paterson, Bowmanville Masonic Holdings and Mrs . Phyllis Dewell, Chairman, Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee be advised of Council's decision. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: The Masonic Lodge, located at 19 King Street East, Bowmanville, was designated as being of historical and architectural value in November 1990 . Restoration work has recently been completed on the exterior of the building and an application for a Designated Property Grant has been submitted. The Ontario Heritage Act, 1974, states that owners of property which has been designated under the Act can apply to the municipality for grants of 50 percent of the total cost of the work, to a maximum of $3,000 . 00 in any calendar year to offset the cost of restoration work. Once the grant has been paid by the municipality, application is made to the province for reimbursement of the entire amount, plus 10 percent to cover administrative costs . Report CD-24-91 - 2 - June 3, 1991 Extensive restoration work was completed, however, only the work completed on the fretwork and the copper foiled glass windows is eligible for the grant, under the guidelines of the Act. The total cost of this work is $8, 020 . The Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee has inspected the work and it is found to be satisfactory. It is, therefore, recommended that the grant application submitted by Mr. William Paterson, on behalf of Bowmanville Masonic Holdings, in the amount of $3,000, being the maximum allowable under the Ontario Heritage Act, be approved.
