REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING
HELD ON DECEMBER 13, 1982

SUBJECT: PAYMENT OF ANNUAL REMUNERATION TO THE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF COUNCIL
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1 . That this report be received; and
2. That By-Law 82- being a by-law to provide for the payment of an
annual remuneration to the Mayor and Members of Council be
considered for approval and forwarded to Council .
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Upon review of the annual salaries and wages, staff have found that By-Law
81-85 which establishes remuneration for the Mayor and Members of Council
requires updating to coincide with the term of Council , now for a period of
three years. Attached please find a draft By-Law for your consideration.
The amount of remuneration remains at existing levels but may be changed
by Council .

THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
BY-LAW 82-
being a by-law to provide for the payment of an annual remuneration
to the Mayor and Members of Council .
Pursuant to the Municipal Act R.S.O 1980, Chapter 302, Section 238, the Council
of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle HEREBY ENACTS as follows:-
1 . That effective Decemberl , 1982 the Mayor be paid an
annual allowance of Twenty-One Thousand Dollars ($21,000) .
2. That effective Decemberl , 1982 the Membersof Council be paid
an annual allowance of Nine Thousand Dollars ($9,000).
3. Such allowance shall be paid bi-weekly for the term of Council
(Three Years) and in the event of the death of a member or upon
his ceasing to be a member for any reason before the expiration
of his or her term of office, the amount shall be in proportion
to the period of his or her service during such term.
4. That by-law 81-85 be and are hereby repealed.
By-Law read a first and second time this day of December 1982.
By-Law read a third and final time this day of December 1982.
