SUBJECT: TENDER T82-11 , THREE ONLY 1983 HALF TON PICK UP 'TRUCKS
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1 . that this report be received; and
2. that Council consider: the purchase of three half ton trucks
as specified under Tender T82-11 , the Victoria Ford Mercury
submission being the lowest responsible bid.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT
Tenders were publicly advertised and called for the supply of three (3) only
Half Ton Pick-Up Trucks as required by the Department of Public Works and
budgeted for in 1982. This tender was initiated in-lieu of a previous
tender, which was referred back to staff by Council September 27, 1982.
The conditions of the recent tender #T82-11 permitted all bidders to submit
bids for Half Ton trucks with leaded, unleaded or diesel powered engines.
The bids were received and tabulated in accordance with Appendix A attached.
Further to the tabulation of bids , "Estimated Comparative Costs" were
prepared (Appendix B) .

The 1982 current budget includes a total amount of $30,000.00 for the
purchase of the trucks.
It appears that on an annual basis a half ton truck using leaded fuel
would be most economical , therefore acceptance of the Victoria Ford
Mercury Bid would be appropriate.
Staff note that using a diesel vehicle or one requiring unleaded fuel
will necessitate additional cost for storage , maintenance and adminis-
tration.
Staff note that there was some debate about supporting local manufac-
turers , when the original tender was considered. There is no municipal
policy in respect of supporting local manufacturers or suppliers ;
Council may wish to opt for another product.
