REPORT TO COUNCIL FOR THE MEETING HELD OCTOBER 4, 1982.

SUBJECT: APPLICATION FOR GOVERNMENT GRANTS
RECOMMENDATION:
It i,s respectfully recommended:
1. That this report be received; and
2. That the projects proposed in the following application be
approved:
(i ) Canada Community Development Projects
(a) Newcastle Tourism Development Project
(b) Newcastle Sidewalk Repair and Renovation Project and
Municipal Lakefront Property Clean-up.
(ii ) Wintario Capital Project submitted on behalf of the Orono
Tennis Club.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
As Council is aware the deadline for application for both of these programs
is September 30, 1982. Due to this short timing, staff have submitted the
above noted applications on behalf of the Corporation.
The applications for the Canada Community Development Project have been prepared
based on the discussions held at previous meetings.
The application for the resurfacing of the Orono Tennis Club was initially presented
to the Ministry by the Club, but was rejected because the property is owned
by the Municipality. Therefore, in order, to assist the Club in its endeavour j
to upgrade the tennis courts, staff have processed this application on the club's
behalf. This application was received in the Treasurer's office on September
29, 1982 and therefore staff was unable to put it before Council prior to its
submission.

Meeting Held October 4, 1982
The funding of this $7,500.00 project will be provided entirely by the
Wintario Grant and the surplus funds of the Orono Tennis Club which
have accumulated over the past number of years. Copies of the application forms
have been previously circulated for your information.
