Report to the Chairman and Members of the Finance and Administration Committee
meeting of September 29, 1981
Report Number: TR-78-81
Subject: Budget Reallocations within the Public Works 1981 budget
Recommendation:
It is respectfully recommended:
1 . That this report be received, and
2. That the Salt Storage Dome budget allocation in the amount of
$68,000 be transferred to the Ontario Street Storm Sewer Account
7301-000-001 in the amount of $56,000 and to the Trull Culvert
Account 7204-000-028 in the amount of $12,000.
Background and Comment:
The subject of allocating the budget dollars set aside for the Salt Storage structure
in Orono has been previously brought before Committee under the Treasury report
number TR-3-81. At that time it was recommended that if approval of the subsidy
on the Ontario Street Storm Sewer was not received from the Ministry of Transportation
and Communication, that the Salt Storage Structure in Orono project be cancelled
and the budgetary allocation be transferred to the Ontario Street Storm Sewer so that
it may be completed in 1981.
Subsequently, the supplementary grant from the Ministry of Transportation and
Communication was received at a amount less than originally anticipated, necessitating
the cancellation of the Salt Storage Struction Construction. The Director of
Public Works and myself have discussed this matter and he wishes now to have Committee
transfer the budget allocation between two projects, that of the Ontario Street
Storm Sewer and the Trull 's Culvert. The Salt Storage Structure in Orono would come
up for discussion again in the 1982 budget process.
From our preliminary review it does appear that both the Ontario Street Storm Sewer
Project and the Trull 's Culvert will come in under budget and therefore there may be
monies left from those projects which might be applied against the Salt Storage Structure
construction in 1982.
