Page. 2 Finance & Administration Committee TR-32-81 May 19, 1981 Report: The present point system was adopted by Bowmanville Council in 1973 and adopted by the Town ov Newcastle Council in February of 1974 The volunteer firemen are currently paid $5.00 per point and this is to continue. The point system was revised as opposed to the payment per point as this allowed for more equitable distribution of the value of work as perceived by the volunteer firemen. The legislation or regulations of the Workmen's Compensation Board were revised in 1980 to allow for coverage for Volunteer Firemen up to $18,000 annual rate. Council at that time deferred any action on this change until 1981. We are therefore, proposing that the change be implemented now. The answering service operates on a 24 hour per day; 365 days a year basis by three ladies operating out of their own homes. The existing agreement has been in effect with them for two years. i i K.
