Memorandum
TO: Chairman & Members of Finance and Administration Committee
FROM: Klaas Degroot, C.G.A. , Treasurer
DATE: March 6, 1981 - Meeting Date - March 9, 1981
SUBJECT: Energy & Conservation Measurers
ITEM: TR-17-81
Recommendation:
"Receive for information"
Report:
The Treasury Department is not a direct user of energy in the sense
' that we are not in charge of equipment or buildings or other apparatus
that are large direct users of energy.
As such we do not have a direct and i'denti°fiable energy reduction program.
We do however, realize that each process or activity that we are involved
in has an energy component to its structure. Thus by minimizing or eliminating
any unnecessary steps or usage of these processes we are in fact helping
to conserve energy.
These steps are not however undertaken with the primary focus of energy
but rather as an overall objective of keeping the cost of services
as low as possible.
This process relates mainly to the elimination of unnecessary services
and du* pl'ication or photocopying extra documents and periodic review of
processes to make sure that they are efficient.
Any estimate of success in reducing the use of energy would be highly
speculative and would be unable to be confirmed and therefore, no attempt
has been made to provide the same.
