HomeMy WebLinkAboutTR-1-81 W,JORANDUM Ttem: TR-1-81 TO: Mayor & Members of the Finance & Administration Committee FROM: Klaas Degroot, C.G.A. , Treasurer DATE: December 19, 1980 SUBJECT: Upgrading of the Computer Facilities Recommendation: " That the Town participate in a consultant study jointly with the Newcastle Public Utilities Commission to be conducted by Deloitte, Haskins and Sells Limited to report on the feasibility of establishing a joint Computer Facility between the Town of Newcastle and the Newcastle Hydro Electric' Coimlission. The cost of the study to be approximately $4,000, with the Public Utilities Commission paying one third, and the Town of Newcastle paying two third's." Report: Mr. M. Watson, the manager of the Public Utilities Commission, and myself have today discussed the subject. Mr. Watson is of the opinion that by the end of 1981 the Utilities Commission must upgrade its computer capabilities, and I am of the opinion that in the same time frame the Municipality must upgrade its computer capabilities. We are both of the opinion that a joint computer facility may work to the mutual cost benefit of both parties. Mr. Watson has suggested that the firm Deloitte, Haskins, and Sells be employed to conduct the study and to present the feasibility report and terms of reference for a proposal call for the selection of equipment. The firm Deloitte, Haskins and Sells were choosen by Mr. Watson because they are both the utilities auditors and the Towns auditors, and therefore have a familiarity with the needs of both organizations. It is my belief that by following this process both user groups can effect better utility of resources then they would be able to if they operated independently. K. Degroot.
