SUBJECT: Provincial Offenders Act
On April 1, 1980, a new provincial offence procedure for prosecution of
provincial statues, regulations as well as municipal by-laws came into
force. It replaced all procedure under the Summary Convictions Act except
for parking infractions which is scheduled to come into existence at a
later date.
Under the new procedure set fines can be established for high volume,
minor offences for which a fine payable out of court is appropriate such
as dog related offences and so forth.
In order to qualify for this new procedure to avoid persons being
summonsed to court, we have contacted the Provincial Attorney Generals
office by letter for approval of set fines for a number of municipal
offences as enclosed.
