HomeMy WebLinkAboutTM-26-80 2 TM-26-80 TO: Chairman and Members of the Finance and Administration Committee FROM: A. C. Guiler, Town Manager DATE: June 23rd, 1980 SUBJECT: Resolution #F-101-80 That the Orono Hydro Electric Building be evaluated and put up for sale." In January the Fire Chief put forth a proposal to turn the former Hydro Electric Building into a fire station for Ward 3. The Community Services Committee referred this proposal to the Finance Committee and the Town Manager for consideration. The Fire Marshal's office was contacted in February requesting they make an inspection of the Building to ascertain if it would be suitable for a replacement fire station. This inspection was made on June 4th, 1980 and a copy of the letter received from the Fire Marshal's office is attached for your infornation. Staff have also taken preliminary steps to have the Building evaluated and put up for sale (survey of property has been completed by M. Brown O.L.S. ). We would respectfully request Committee to give direction on which direction they wish staff to continue with respect to this particular property. Mr. Albert Guiler, Town Manager, Town of Newcastle, 40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville, Ontario L1C 3A6 Re: Fire Station - Orno Dear Mr. Guiler: Further to our meeting of June 4th, 1980, with yourself, the Mayor and the Fire Chief, please be advised that the proposed former Hydro Building would be suitable for a replacement fire station for the Orno district. I would suggest the following renovations be made which are as follows; (1) at least 2 apparatus bays be installed with the doors being not less than 13' by 131 , (2) the present office space at the front of the building be utilized to accommodate office space for the Fire Department Officers of the area, training and meeting room, and communications room, (3) hose drying facilities be provided, (4) a shower be installed for the fire fighters, and, any additional renovations as seen fit by the Fire Chief. Hoping this will be of benefit to you, and if, in the future, you need further assistance, please feel free to call me. Yours very truly, Norm J.
