Maintenance of Parking-Meters
During Budget discussions a concern was ra=ised as to the need to continue
the maintenance contract for the parking meters and this matter was tabled
until a decision was made on the raising of a maintenance. man.
Now that we have a Lull time maintenance man on staff, Mr. Simpson has
contacted J. J. MacKay Canada Limited and was advised that they provide
a two day training course in London at no cost to the Municipality, or
we could wait until October when the meters are scheduled for service wurl<_
under the present contract and pay a service representative on an hourly
basis for his additional time while training o" r employee on the ,job.
The City of Oshawa meter department has also agreed to provide some
training to our employee at their convenience after vacation time or
at a worker' s rate of pay if we require immmedi_ate job training.
After reviewing the various alternatives we have for training a person to
maintain the parking meters we would reNpectPully recommend to Committee
as follows:
1 . That we request the MacKay service representative to
provide on the job serv.i_ce training in October
during the regular schedule service for the ureters.
2 . That we continue the training of the maintenance man
by accepting the generous offer made by the City of Who=
meter department to train him at their. convenience.
3. That the maintenance contract with J . J. MacKay Crn ndN Limi tud
be discontinued effective Deccmher 31M , 1979 .
