SUBJECT: Hamlet Development Plan - Newtonville

RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that:
1. This Report be received for information; and
2. A copy of this Report be forwarded to T. J. Huzar
in reply to his letter of March 26, 1981.
BACKGROUND:
On October 27, 1980, Planning and Development Committee con-
sidered staff Report P-173-80 in respect of the Hamlet Development

Plan for Newtonville and recommended the following resolution to Council:

"It was recommended to Council that the Hamlet Development
Plan for N eTwtonyille be received- and staff circulate _

questionnaire to the residents of Newtonville as under- j
the Plan to Regional Council for comments in accordance
with Section 10.4.2.2 of the Durham Regional Official Plan
with the results of the survey."
On April 6, 1981, Council considered the attached letter
from T. J. Huzar regarding the processing of the Hamlet Plan which ``
was referred to the Director of Planning for a report to the Planning
and Development Committee.

COMMENT:
In accordance with the recommendation to Council of
October 27, 1980 Planning staff have forwarded the Hamlet Plan
for Newtonville to the Regional Clerk's Office for processing with
a copy of the attached questionnaire summary.
Please also find attached a copy of the Hamlet Development
Plan as submitted and previous staff reports on this item.

QUESTIONNAIRE RESPONSE SUMMARY - NEWTONVILLE
s a total of 120 questionnaires were mailed to householders
in Newtonville.
V • 38 questionnaires were returned or 32% of those polled,
responded.
• 95% of respondents live in single family dwellings.

S e 50% of respondents live in dwellings over 30 years in age.
• 47% of respondents live in dwellings located on lots of
t0 2 acre in size.
• 26% of respondents indicated that 2 persons live in each
dwelling.
• 19% of respondents indicated no school age children live
in their households.
• 50% of respondents indicated their wells were 25' to 50'
in depth.
• 11% of respondents reported experiencing periodic contamin-
ation of their wells and 47% of respondents indicated periodic
inadequate water supply.
1° 0 2.5% of respondents reported difficulties with the operation
of their private waste disposal system.
\ 0 24% of respondents reported experiencing storm run-off problems
on their properties. `
C1' 0 71% of respondents indicated that in their opinion Newtonville
does not have adequate recreational/commercial and/or community ,?��
facilities.
• 82% of respondents indicated that additional residential growth
i in the Hamlet was desirable. Of those indicating that additional
growth was desirable, 93% felt less than 25% per year was desir-
able.
