There is a need for municipalities to re-examine the traditional approaches to planning and decision--making to determine what is necessary to address the energy conservation issue . In keeping with the Government ' s stated objectives for reducing energy consumption in Ontario, we wish to make you aware of a new incentive program through the Community Manning Advisory Branch of the Ministry of Housing . Municipalities. over 15 , 000 persons in population, Regional Municipalities and Counties wi11 be eligible to receive up to a 75% subsidy ( to a maximum of $50 , 000 . 00) for undertaking land use studies relating to energy conservation. A broad range of studies may be considered for assistance, for example : (a ) the review and updating of ] ann inch ��n�,i,nr-�n_t c__Ln —. in order to identify and introduce measures which encourage energy efficiency in community development; (b ) detailed background studies identifying the potential for increased energy efficiency in the built environment ; - {J (o \ inventories of energy use in terms of the amount and type of energy us'od in the community; (d ) studies to aasuaa the potential for using district heating in new development or redevelopment ,' and (e ) studies to determine the impact of various land use planning policies on municipal energy consumption, as background consideration for changing the policies . , Preliminary inquiries for energy conservation related land use studies should -be directed to this office . This liaison period will also be used to determine, with the assistance of our Read Office, whether a study is eligible for assistance and that it will not duplicate research being done elsewhere in the Province .
