SUBJECT: Proposed Expansion of St. George Cemetery,
Part of Lot 34, Concession 2, former Township
nf C:1 nrke - Fi 1 P: C:-2-G-1
BACKGROUND:
On March 17, 1980 a letter from Mr. John A. Francis,
Inspector for the Ministry of Consumer & Commercial Relations,
Cemeteries Branch, was forwarded to the Planning Department for
the submission of a report regarding the proposed expansion of
St. George's Cemetery. The provisions of the Cemeteries Act requires
that the Council of the area municipality indicates their approval
of the expansion of cemeteries prior to the issuance of any permits
from the Cemeteries Branch of the Ministry of Consumer & Commercial
Relations.
Staff note that the proposal was circulated to the Durham
Regional Health Unit, Newcastle Community Services Department and
the Newcastle Public Works Department; none of which offered any
objections.

COMMENTS:
Staff have reviewed the request submitted by Mr. Francis
and note that the expansion of St. George's Cemetery would have no
direct implications on abutting agricultural lands in the area.
Staff would, therefore, have no objection to the approval
of this expansion and would recommend that Council notify Mr. Francis,
Cemeteries Branch of the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations,
of same.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1. That Council approve the proposed expansion of St.
George's Cemetery; and
2. That Council notify Mr. Francis of this approval.
