REPORT NO. : P-137-80 SUBJECT: Ministry of Housing - Annual Housing Review File: 11.1 BACKGROUND: The attached questionnaire was forwarded to the Town of New- castle for completion as part of the Ministry of Housing's Annual Review of Municipal Housing Needs. The questionnaire is divided into six sections by type of Housing Program. Municipalities are asked to indicate targets for the provision of housing for the 1981, 1982 and 1983 interval. COMMENT: Staff have completed the questionnaire noting that the Town intends to prepare a Municipal Housing Statement outlining detailed (lousing needs. Staff have again this year noted that the Ministry of Housing's housing needs survey, done in 1978, indicated a need for 20-24 rent-geared-to income units for senior citizens. We have also again noted that the Newcastle Village Senior Citizen's Lodge represents a target of approximately 43 units in the private non-profit housing category. This repetition is due to the fact that there have been no significant changes in the Town's situation aside from the actual approval of the Newcastle Village project. V(I ) - 2 - The Ministry of Housing is also requesting that Council endorse the "targets" contained in the questionnaire and in view of the fact that Council has previously endorsed these targets, we are again so recommending. RECOMMENDATION: That the Planning and Development Committee recommend to Council that the following resolution be adopted: "The Town of Newcastle hereby endorses the housing "targets" included within the Tinistry of Housing's Annual Housing Review questionnaire as attached and notes that the Town will be preparing a Municipal. For those who have not selected a specific program, but who have identified a need, Table 5 should be completed, Ministry of Housing staff is available to work with the municipality to determine which program is the most suitable.
