CLIMENHAGE RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended to Council: 1. THAT Report CD-48-88 be received; 2. THAT a Designated Property Grant in the amount of $3,000 be approved for Mr. David C. Climenhage; and 3. THAT the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture, Mr. David Climenhage and Mrs. Phyllis Dewell, Chairman, Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee be advised of Council's decision. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: By-law 87-17 designating the subject property as being of Architectural. and Historical Value was passed by Council on January 26, 1987. Continued . . . . ./2 CD-48-88 - 2 - December 19, 1988 Mr. Climenhage has recently had some stone restoration completed on the dwelling. The work has been inspected and found to be satisfactory by the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee. Barrie Stone restoration work on the "John Stalker House", under the approved designated property grant of $3000 has been completed. Total project cost was $7177 (see attached receipt) . This was approximately $1000 higher than the initial estimate. Additional cost was incurred to clean and repair masonry work behind the block chimney that was removed, and for repair of the large hole in cellar wall. All money spent was for stone restoration and did not include cost of removal of the chimney or resulting roof repair. A set of pictures showing a view of each wall is enclosed. Some of the work is underway in these pictures. I am completely satisfied with the quality of the work and that the work was carried out to Ministry guidelines. I have paid Eastern Restoration in full and would appreciate your prompt processing of the $3000 designated property grant. As per your request, I have obtained a few early pictures of the house from the former owner. I will have copies made for the Ministry and the Town of Newcastle's records.
