MEETING: General Purpose and Administration Committee
DATE: February 15, 1988
REPORT #: CD-6-88 FILE #: 68.26.2
SLJ&ECT: ADULT CROSSING GUARD - Robert and Mill Street,
Newcastle Village
RECOMMENDATIONS:
THAT this report, #CD-6-88, be received for information.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS:
Pursuant to resolution GPA-948-87 of December 7th that an adult crossing guard be placed
at the above-mentioned location "forthwith" , Clerk' s Department staff have, as of this
writing, advertised the position in the local newspapers on two separate occasions.
In addition , Mrs. Jeannine Winter, Parent Liason Committee Chairperson, Newcastle Public
School , has endeavoured to fill the position from within the membership.
Our combined efforts have so far produced negative results.
School crossing guard recruitment is an on-going problem for all municipalities and the
Town of Newcastle is certainly no exception. The problem is quite obviously made worse
during the winter months. Mr. R. Simser, Principal , Newcastle Public School , will
continue the school patrol for as long as it takes to fill the position; staff will strive
to accomplish this as expeditiously as possible.
