PELTING: General Purpose and Administration Committee
DATE: Tuesday, September 2 , 1986
REPORT #: CD-44-86 FILE #: 68.26.9
SUBJECT: Pay Increase -
School Crossing Guards
RECOWIENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:
1) THAT this report be received ; and,
2) THAT the School Crossing Guards be granted a pay increase of
4.5% ; and,
3) THAT the increase be implemented for pay period #19, September 18, 1986.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
During the 1986 budget discussions it was decided that the matter of Crossing Guard
compensation should be looked at during the summer school break, this in keeping with
policy for the majority of municipalities located in the Durham Region. This having been
done , it is now recommended that the Crossing Guards be granted an increase of 4.5%,
equaling the amount paid other Town employees. In terms of figures, such an increase
would raise the guards salary from $130.00 to $135.85 bi-weekly. The necessary funds
are available in Account #7240-0006-x-9. By way of comparison, the City of Oshawa compen-
sates Crossing Guards at a rate of $153.46 bi-weekly, 1985 rate. They too are recommending
an increase of 4.5% for 1986.
