1.0 BACKGROUND
1.1 The Clarington Animal Shelter has recently joined www.oetfinder.com. a web site
which provides public access to a data base of pets housed in animal shelters and
animal care facilities across Ontario. The data is updated daily and maintained by
Shelter staff. New cats and dogs arriving at the Clarington Shelter are
photographed and posted on the web site daily which allows the user to view the
current lost and adoptable pets housed in each facility. Staff is very pleased with
the fact that 585 hits were received the first week the Municipality of Clarington
joined this web site.
1.2 Included in the list of participating agencies on this web site, are the following:
o The Animal Guardian Society, Blackstock
o Ontario SPCA, Brampton
o Barlees Angels Rescue Network, Cambridge
o Mississauga Animal Rescue Service, Mississauga
o Ontario SPCA Provincial Animal Care Centre, Newmarket
o Ontario SPCA, North York
o PAWS to Love Animal Rescue, Thornhill
o Toronto Animal Services, Toronto
o Toronto Cat Rescue, Toronto
o Toronto Humane Society, Toronto
o Windsor/Essex County Humane Society, Windsor and several other
animal care facilities in the Province of Ontario.
The site can be accessed free of charge.
1.3 When looking for a lost pet or to adopt a pet, our customers will now have the
options of:

Attending in person at the Animal Shelter at 33 Lake Road, Bowmanville
Telephoning the Animal Shelter at 905-623-7651
Accessing the Municipality's web site: municipality.Clarington.on.ca
Accessing www,oetoostinqs,com for a small fee; and
Accessing www,oetfinder.com free of charge.

It is staffs intention to prepare small pamphlets containing this information to
hand out to members of the public at various functions in which staff and
Members of the Animal Advisory Committee participate.
