MARCH 19, 1984.

SUBJECT: INVESTIGATION OF PROBLEM RELATING TO THE
MUNICIPALITY'S EMERGENCY TELEPHONE NUMBERS
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. That this report be received for information.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
At the meeting of Council on Monday, March 12th 1984, Councillor Hobbs
indicated, that the Town's emergency telephone number was the same as the
telephone number of the Canadian Statesman. Both numbers were examined,
and the fact is that while the numbers are close in terms of sequence, and
could lead to a dialing error, they are in fact different.
1. The Canadian Statesman Number is 623-3303;
2. Town of Newcastle Fire Emergency Numbers Are:
For Bowmanville/Courtice/Hampton 623-3300
For Newcastle and Newtonville 987-4211
For Orono 983-5302
For the further information of Council , I would advise, that the Regional
Police Emergency Number is (Oshawa) 579-1234
Regional Works Numbers Are:
Newcastle (Oshawa) 576-9991
or Zenith 61100
Newcastle Village 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Orono 983-5116

As members of Council are aware, the Clerk's Department prepares a
Directory each year, which lists the names, addresses and telephone
numbers relating to the many activities controlled by the municipality.
This Directory for the year 1984 is presently at the printers. It
will be printed and ready for distribution in about four weeks.
