MARRIAGE LICENCE FEES
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee
recommend to Council the following:
1) THAT Report CLD-04-02 be received;
2) THAT the fee charged for Marriage Licences in the Municipality of
Clarington be increased from $75.00 to $100.00 effective
February 1, 2002; and
3) THAT the by-law attached to Report CLD-04-02 be presented to Council.

In January, 1997, Council considered Report CD-1-97 which implemented fees
associated with the Vital Statistics Act. At that time, staff recommended that the fee for
Marriage Licences remain at $75.00.
Presently, the Municipality of Clarington and the Township of Brock are the only
municipalities within the Region of Durham charging $75,00, with each of the other
municipalities charging $100.00, In order to maintain consistency throughout the
southern municipalities of the Region, it is recommended that the municipality
implement a $100.00 fee for Marriage Licences effective February 1, 2002.
Over the last three years, the number of Marriage Licences issued is:
1999 - 249
2000 - 261
2001- 249
A by-law implementing the new fee is attached hereto.

BY-LAW 2002-
Being a by-law to establish a fee for Marriage
Licences for the Municipality of Clarington effective
February 1 , 2002
WHEREAS on January 28, 2002, the Council of the Municipality of Clarington
adopted the recommendations contained within Report CLD-04-02;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the Corporation of the
Municipality of Clarington enacts as follows:
1. THAT a fee of $100.00 be charged for the issuance of Marriage Licences
in the Municipality of Clarington; and
2. THAT this by-law come into enforce and take effect on February 1, 2002.
By-law read a first and second time this 28th day of January 2002.
By-law read a third time and finally passed this 28th day of January 2002.
