REPORT TO COUNCIL MEETING OF MAY 25TH 1982
CD-29-82
SUBJECT: PROSECUTION - DOGS AT LARGE
TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
OUR FILE: 68.29.4.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. That this report be received for
information.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
As the result of a vigorous campaign undertaken by Mr. Kirkland, and
members of the Animal Control Section, we would advise, that Mr. Allan
Abernathy, Cherry Lane, was convicted in Provincial Court of permitting
his dog to run at large and fined $50.00.
Of greater significance, the Court issued a Probation Order which
requires Mr. Abernathy to keep his animal confined. The Order is in
force for a period of one year.
The problems associated with dogs running at large include agricultural
crop damage, destruction of livestock and fowl and attacks upon people.
It is the hope, that by prosecuting offenders and asking the Court to
impose maximum penalties upon persons convicted that the number of dog
related problems in the Town of Newcastle will be reduced.
Respectfully submitted,
