SUB,ECT: TENDER T87-32, TREE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended to Council the following:
1. That this report be received; and
2. That Asplundh Utility Services Limited, Cobourg, Ontario, with a bid
of $20,830.00, being the lowest responsible bidder, meeting all
terms, conditions and specifications of Tender T87-32, be awarded the
contract for Tree Maintenance as required by the Department of Public
Works; and
3. That the funds be drawn from the 1987 approved Public Works Road
Maintenance budget.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
A tender was publicly advertised in local papers and called for the supply of
all necessary labour, materials and equipment to perform the Tree Maintenance
Program as required by the Department of Public Works.

The 1986 Tree Maintenance contract was awarded to Asplundh Utility Services,
with a total bid price of $16,252.0101. Although their total bid price for the
1987 contract appears to be approximately a 28% increase over the 1986 contract
price, the Tree Maintenance Work Schedule varies from year to year in size of
trees, the locations and the labour involved, thereby effecting the unit prices.
A decrease of 9% was realized in 1986 over the 1985 contract prices.
The required funds will be drawn from the 1987 approved Public Works Road
Maintenance budget are well within the budget amount.

After review and analysis of the tenders by Public Works and Purchasing, it was
agreed that Asplundh Utility Services Limited, Cobourg, Ontario, be recommended
for the contract award as tendered. The subject firm is an established
reputable company which have worked to the satisfaction of the Town of Newcastle
in recent years.
