SUBJECT: CO-OPERATIVE PURCHASING
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. That this report be received for information purposes.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
In June of this year, a resolution of Council was passed directing staff to
investigate and report back relative to joint purchasing through the Region and
area municipalities.
For the information of Council the following is a list of Co-Operative Tenders
which the Town of Newcastle participated in during 1987:
WD17-87 Supply and Delivery of Calcium Chloride
WD60-87 Supply of Sodium Chloride
WD61-87 Delivery of Sodium Chloride
WD63-87 Supply and Delivery of Winter Sand
In addition to the above, staff have made arrangements with the Region of Durham,
for the Town of Newcastle's requirements to be included in the 1988 Co-Operative
Tender for No. 2 Domestic Fuel Oil.

CO-OPERATIVE PURCHASING
In January of each year, a schedule of Annual Tenders and Quotations is issued and
distributed to area Municipalities by the Regional Municipality of Durham. Upon
receipt of this list, staff will review opportunties to participate in additional
Co-Operative Tenders for 1988.
In past years, staff have found Co-Operative purchasing to be very successful and
cost efficient.
