WD61-87, THE DELIVERY OF SODIUM CHLORIDE
After review and analysis of the bids by Purchasing and Public Works staff, it
was mutually agreed that the low bidder, Canadian Salt Company Limited,
Mississauga, Ontario, and T.H. Forsythe Haulage Limited, Pickering, Ontario, be
recommended for the contracts to Supply and Deliver Sodium Chloride to the Town
of Newcastle.
The required funds will be drawn from the Public Works approved Winter
Maintenance accounts for the 1987/88 winter season requirements from which there
are adequate funds available.
The tendered prices of $28.14 per tonne for the Supply of Sodium Chloride is a
decrease of 2% from the 1986 prices. The tendered prices of $ .70, $1.15 and
$ .98 per tonne for the Delivery of Sodium Chloride represent a decrease of
approximately 140% from 1986 prices.
The substantial decrease in the delivery prices is due to the lower haulage
costs incurred in having the Sodium Chloride picked up at the Bowmanville Dock
rather than the Oshawa Dock, as has been the case in past years.
Respectfully submitted, Recommended for presentation
to the Committee,
