SMECT: QUOTATION Q87-12, HOT MIX PATCHING
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. That this report be received; and
2. That Mackie and Reid Paving, Orono, Ontario, with a total bid in the
amount of $19,078.39, being the lowest responsible bidder meeting all
terms, conditions and specifications of Quotation Q87-12, be awarded
the contract forthwith, for the Supply and Placement of Hot Mix
Patching, in various locations in the Town of Newcastle; and
3. That the funds expended be drawn from the approved Public Works Road
Maintenance Construction and Capital Project budgets.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Quotations were pubicly advertised and called for the .Supply and Placement of
Hot Mix Patching as required by the Department of Public Works.
Quotations were received and tabulated as follows:

Due to the nature of the work involved, the variations in the locations of the
patching and the estimated tonnes required, it is difficult to ascertain the
actual price increase compared to 1986, however, it is approximately 5o-10%.
See attached 1987 Hot Mix Patching Schedule, marked Schedule "A".
The required funds will be drawn from the approved Public Works Road Maintenance
Construction and Capital Project budgets, from which there are adequate funds
available.
In order that the work may be commenced as soon as possible, it is requested
that the contract be awarded forthwith.
After review and analysis of the quotation by Public Works and Purchasing staff,
it was mutually agreed that Mackie and Reid, Orono, Ontario, be recommended for

the contract award to supply and place Hot Mix Patching as quoted. The subject
firm have performed satisfactorily for the Town of Newcastle in recent years.
