By-Law # MEETING: GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE DATE: September 8, 1987 REPORT #: TR-61-87 FILE #: SUBJECT: TENDER NO. T87-23, HOT MIX ASPHALT RESURFACING RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend to Council the following: 1. That this report be received for information. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: During the August Council break and in accordance with resolution number G.P.A. 613-87, Bennett Paving and Materials Limited, Oshawa, Ontario, with a total bid of $208,457.33, being the lowest responsible bidder meeting all terms, conditions and specifications, were awarded Tender No. T87-23, Hot Mix Asphalt Resurfacing. The funds expended will be drawn from the approved Public Works Road Maintenance Construction and Capital Projects budgets, from which there are adequate funds available. Tenders were publicly advertised and called for the Supply and Placement of Hot Mix Asphalt as required by the Department of Public Works. Page - 2 - TR-61-87 TENDER NO. T87-23, HOT MIX ASPHALT RESURFACING Tenders were received and tabulated as follows: Bidder Total Bid Amount Bennett Paving and Materials Limited $218,457.33 Oshawa, Ontario Harnden and King Construction $221,275.91 Cobourg, Ontario Two (2) bidders is the usual response received for this tender. Due to the nature of the work involved, the variations in the locations of the paving and the estimated tonnes required, it is difficult to ascertain the actual price increase compared to 1986, however, it is approximately 30-70. See attached 1987 Hot Mix Paving Schedule, marked Schedule "A". After review and analysis of the tender by Public Works and Purchasing staff, it was mutually agreed that Bennett Paving and Materials Limited, Oshawa, Ontario, be awarded the contract to supply and place Hot Mix Patching as quoted.
