Provincial Legislation directs that the Town collect taxes approved by the Boards of Education and the Region of Durham. The 1987 average assessed value in the Town of Newcastle is $3,175. Therefore the average 1987 taxes, based on the mill rate will be $1,489 for public school purposes as opposed to $1,4012 in 1986.
