RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recom e d to Council the following :
1 . That this report1be received ; and
2 . That Asplundh Utility Services Limited , Cobourg,
Ontario, with a bid of $16 , 252 . 00 , being the lowest
responsible bidder , meeting all terms , conditions and
specifications of Tender No . T86-29 , be awarded the
contract for Tree Maintenance as required by the
Department of Public Works ; and
3. That the funds be drawn from the 1986 approved Public
Works Road Maintenance budget .
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
A tender was publicly advertised in local papers and called for
the supply of all necessary labour, materials and equipment to
perform the Tree Maintenance Program as required by the
Department of Public Works .

Subsequently , tenders were received and tabulated as follows :

The 1985 Tree Maintenance contract was awarded to Cross Brothers
Tree Service Limited , with a total bid of $ 17 , 610 . 00 . Although
the total bid price of Asplundh Utility Services Limited is
approximately a 9% decrease over the 1985 contract price , the
Tree Maintenance Work Schedule is substantially greater for 1986
versus 1985. Due to a busy work schedule , Asplundh Utility
Services Limited did not bid on the Town of Newcastle 1985 Tree
Maintenance Contract .
The required funds will be drawn from the 1986 approved Public Works
Road Maintenance budget and are well within the budgeted amount .
After review and analysis of the tenders by Public Works and
Purchasing, it was agreed that Asplundh Utility Services Limited ,
Cobourg, Ontario , be recommended for the contract award as
tendered . The subject firm is an established reputable company
which have a proven record with both Ontario Hydro and the
Regional Municipality of Durham.
