BACKGROUND & COMMENT Attached, please find a draft of the 1986 information bulletin to be inserted in the final 1986 tax bills as required by the Municipal Act, R.S.0.1980 section 379(3) . YOUR 1986 TAX DOLLARS 22# of your Property Tax Dollar is spent by the Town of Newcastle; 18f by the Region of Durham and 60# by the Boards of Education. Provincial Legislation directs that the Town collect taxes approved by the Boards of Education and the Region of Durham. The 1986 average assessed value in the Town of Newcastle is $3,150. Therefore the average 1986 taxes, based on the mill rate will be $1,402 for public school purposes as opposed to $1,181 in 1985. SCHOOL BOARDS Through the school boards` tax dollars (60%), residents of the Town of Newcastle are provided with education facilities and associated administrative services.
