SUBJECT: WD10-06, SUPPLY AND DELIVERY OF CALCUIM CHLORIDE
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee
recommend to Council the following :
1 . That this report be received; and
2. That Miller Paving Ltd. , Unionville, Ontario, with a unit price
of $ .1240 per litre and $204.68 per tonne for 35 percent Liquid
Calcuim Chloride Solution and bulk Calcuim Chloride respectively
being the lowest responsible bidder meeting all terms and
specifications of the Region of Durham Co-Op Tender, No. WD10-86.
be awarded the contract to supply and apply Calcuim Chloride, as
required by the Town of Newcastle Public Works Department; and
3. That Canada Transport Limited, Belleville, Ontario, with a unit
price of $295.47 per tonne for bulk Calcuim Chloride being the
lowest responsible bidder meeting all terms and specifications of
the Region of Durham Co-Op Tender, No. WD10-86 be awarded the
portion of the contract to supply and deliver approximately 5 tonnes
each to both the Hampton and Orono Yards, as required by the Town
of Newcastle Public Works Department; and
4. That the funds expended be drawn from the 1986 budget allocation
for Public Works Road Maintenance.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
The Town of Newcastle joined the Region of Durham on a co-operative basis to tender for
the supply and application of calcuim chloride products.

NOTE: The above prices include Federal Sales Tax; Provincial Retail Sales Tax is

After review of the bids by Purchasing and Public Works, it was mutually agreed that
the bid from Miller Paving Ltd. , Unionville, Ontario, be recommended for the contract
to supply and apply calcuim chloride and that Canada Transport Limited, Belleville,
Ontario, be recommended for the contract for bulk calcuim chloride.
The prices tendered from Miller Paving Ltd. , reflect a 2 to 3 percent increase and the
prices tendered from Canada Transport, reflect a 6 percent increase, compared with
1985 rates.
