SUB,ECT: QUOTATION NO. Q85-14, SNOW CLEARING AND WINTER MAINTENANCE OF
FIRE DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee
recommend to Council the following:
1 . That this report be received; and
2. That D & F Snow Removal , Bowmanville, Ontario, with a bid in the amount
of $235.00 per call out, being the lowest responsible bidder, meeting all
terms, conditions and specifications of Quotation Q85-14 be awarded the
contract to provide Snow Clearing and Winter Maintenance to driveways and
parking lots as required by the Town of Newcastle -Fire Department for
the 1985/86 winter season; and
3. That the funds expended be drawn from the 1985 and 1986 Fire Department
Snow Removal budget.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Quotations were invited for the Snow Clearing and Winter Maintenance of driveways and
parking lots as required by the Town of Newcastle Fire Department for the following
locations:
1 . Fire Station #2
Newcastle, Ontario
2. Fire Station #3
Orono, Ontario
3. Fire Station #4
Courtice, Ontario

The low bidder, Mr. Greg Shea , of G.W.S. Landscaping , Bowmanville , Ontario, (formerly
Fairway Property Ltd. ) , provided snow clearing services for the Town of Newcastle
Fire Department during the 1983-1984 winter season. Despite repeated attempts to
improve the level of service the company was unable to meet the service expectations
of the Fire Department.
Due to the emergency nature of the fire service, the snow must be cleared from all
of the Fire Halls promptly after a snow fall.
The second low bidder, D & F Snow Removal , performed the snow removal contract for
the Town of Newcastle Fire Department for the 1984-1985 winter season with an excellent
level of service being supplied.
After further review and analysis of the tenders by the Fire Chief and the Purchasing
staff, it was agreed that D & F Snow Removal , Bowmanville, Ontario, be awarded the
contract to supply Snow Clearing and Winter Maintenance as required by the Town of
Newcastle Fire Department.

The total bid price reflects a 15% decrease from the 1984-1985 season.
