REPORT TO GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING
HELD SEPTEMBER 3, 1985.
REPORT NO. : TR-50-85
SUBJECT: REGION OF DURHAM CO-OPERATIVE TENDER WD40.-85 - SUPPLY
AND DELIVERY OF WINTER SAND.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. that this report be received; and
2. that Harnden & King Construction (Ont. ) Ltd. ,
Cobourg, Ontario with a total bid in the
amount of $38,680.00 being the lowest
responsible bidder meeting all terms, conditions
and specifications of the Region of Durham
Co-operative Tender WD40-85 be awarded the
contract to supply, deliver, mix and stockpile
winter sand as required by the Town of Newcastle
for the 1985/86 winter season; and
3. that the funds be drawn from the Public Works
approved winter maintenance accounts for the
1985/86 winter season requirements.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Tenders were called on a co-operative basis by the Region of Durham
which included the requirements of the Town of Newcastle Public
Works Department for the supply and delivery of winter sand. '

OF WINTER SAND.
The following tenders were received and tabulated:

The sand domes are presently full and we do not anticipate refill
until 1986, depending on winter conditions. It is possible, if
weather is not severe refilling may not be required.
After review and analysis of the bids by Purchasing and Public Works
staff, it was agreed that Harnden & King Construction (Ont. ) Ltd. ,
Cobourg, Ontario, be recommended for the contract to supply and
deliver winter sand to the Town of Newcastle as required by the
Department of Public Works.
The prices tendered reflect an increase of 6.3 percent over the
previous year.
