REPORT TO GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING
HELD SEPTEMBER 3, 1985.
REPORT NO. : TR-49-85
SUBJECT: REGION OF DURHAM CO-OPERATIVE TENDERS
WD41-85 - SUPPLY OF SODIUM CHLORIDE and
WD37-85 - DELIVERY OF SODIUM CHLORIDE.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1 . that this report be received; and
2. that Iroquois Salt Products Ltd. ,
Mississauga, Ontario with a unit price
of $28.19 per tonne being the lowest
responsible bidder meeting all terms,
conditions and specifications of Region
of Durham Co-operative Tender WD41-85 be
awarded the contract to supply bulk sodium
chloride to the Town of Newcastle as
required by the Department of Public Works;
and
3. that Buckham Transport Ltd. , Peterborough,
Ontario with a unit price of $1 .50 per
tonne to Bowmanville Yard, $1 .75 per tonne
to Orono Yard and $1 .75 per tonne to Hampton
Yard, being the lowest responsible bidder
meeting all terms, conditions and specifications
of Region of Durham Co-operative Tender WD37-85
be awarded the contract for delivery of Sodium
Chloride to the Town of Newcastle as required "

4. that the funds be drawn from the Public
Works approved winter maintenance accounts
for the 1985/86 winter season requirements.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Tenders were called on a co-operative basis by the Region of Durham,
which included the Sodium Chloride requirements of the Town of
Newcastle. The following tenders were received and tabulated as
follows for approximately 3,300 tonnes of Sodium Chloride as
required by the Town of Newcastle:

REGION OF DURHAM CO-OPERATIVE TENDERS WD41-85 - SUPPLY OF
SODIUM CHLORIDE and WD37-85 - DELIVERY OF SODIUM CHLORIDE.
After review of the bids by Purchasing and Public Works staff,
it was agreed that the low bidders Iroquois Salt Products Ltd. ,
Mississauga, and Buckham Transport Ltd. , Peterborough be
recommended for the contracts to supply and deliver Sodium
Chloride to the Town of Newcastle.
The tendered price of $28. 19/tonne for the supply of the Sodium
is an increase of 2.8 percent from 1984 prices.
