REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
MEETING OF NOVEMBER 5, 1984

SUBJECT: 1985 MUNICIPAL GRANT APPLICATION
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council that this report
be received for information.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
The Treasury Department has placed the advertisments in the
local papers advising the residents of the December 17th 1984
deadline for The Municipal Grant Applications for the 1985
Budget Year.
Subsequent to the final application date, the Treasury
Department will provide the Newcastle Community Services
Planning Board with the following information, on which to
base its recommendations to Council for the 1985 Municipal
Grants.

Information on which to base Grants under The Municipal Grants
Policy:
(a) Copy of The Municipal Grants Policy.
(b) The maximum total grant monies available for the
1985 Budget Year to meet the requests, as
provided in the Municipal Grants Policy [$2.00
per capital .
(c) A copy of all grant requests for the 1985 Budget
Year by category [Civic, Recreation, Cultural ,
Service] .
(d) A comparative list of 1984 grants versus 1985
grant requests.
The board' s recommendations to Council would be expected by
the end of January, to coincide with our 1985 Budget
Schedule.
For those requests which fall outside the grants policy, but
which are still within the mandate of the Newcastle Community
Services Planning Board to make recommendations to Council ie:
Capital projects for the local boards; the following
information will be provided.
Information on which to base grants outside the Municipal
Grants Policy:
(a) The Municipal Budget Guidelines for the 1985
Budget Year.
(b) The balance of the Parkland Cash-in-Lieu Reserve
Fund and the uses to which those funds can be put
for capital projects.

(c) A copy of all grant requests for the 1985 Budget
Year which relate to capital requests.
The Newcastle Community Services Planning board will be
responsible to review all of the applications, set the
priorities and interview such applicants as they see fit
during their evaluation of the various requests. If the Board
wishes further background information, or the assistance of
staff, it will be provided to the fullest extent possible.
The originals of all grant requests will be maintained in the
Treasury Department for the review of any Member of Council ,
after the filing deadline has been passed. The Members of
Council will , also, be provided with the comparative listing
of 1985 Grant Requests versus 1984 Grants for their
information.
