REPORT TO COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 29, 1984

SUBJECT: REGION OF DURHAM CO-OP TENDER WD52-84, SUPPLY
& DELIVERY OF WINTER SAND
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended to Council :
1 . That this report be received; and
2. That Harnden & King Construction (Ont. ) Ltd. , Cobourg, with a total bid in
the amount of $30,650.00 being the lowest responsible bidder meeting all
terms, conditions, and specifications of the Region of Durham Co-Op
Tender WD52-84 be awarded the contract to supply and deliver winter sand
to the Town of Newcastle for the 1984/85 winter season; and
3. That the funds be drawn from the Public Works approved winter maintenance
accounts for the 1984/85 winter season requirements.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT
Tenders were called on a co-operative basis by the Region of Durham, which
included the requirements of the Town of Newcastle Public Works Department for the
supply and delivery of winter sand. The following tenders were received and
tabulated:

After review and analysis of the bids by Purchasing and Public Works staff,
it was agreed that Harnden & King Construction (Ont. ) Ltd. , Cobourg, Ontario, be
recommended for the contract to supply and deliver winter sand to the Town of
Newcastle as required by the Department of Public Works.
The prices tendered reflect an increase of 13.5 percent over the previous
year.
