SUBJECT: REGION OF DURHAM CO-OP TENDER WD50-84, SUPPLY OF
SODIUM CHLORIDE
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended to Council :
1 . That this report be received; and
2. That The Canadian Salt Company Ltd. , Mississauga, Ontario with a unit price
of $27.43 per tonne being the lowest responsible bidder meeting all terms,
conditions, and specifications of Region of Durham Co-Op Tender WD50-84
be awarded the contract to supply bulk sodium chloride to the Town of
Newcastle as required by the Department of Public Works; and
3. That the funds be drawn from the Public Works approved winter maintenance
accounts for the 1984/85 winter season requirements.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT
Tenders were called on a co-operative basis by the Region of Durham, which
included the sodium chloride requirements of the Town of Newcastle. The following
tenders were received and tabulated as follows for approximately 3300 tonnes of
sodium chloride as required by the Town of Newcastle:

After review of the bids by Purchasing and Public Works staff, it was agreed
that the low bidder, The Canadian Salt Co. Ltd. , Mississauga, be recommended for the
contract award to supply sodium chloride to the Town of Newcastle.
The tendered price of $27.43 reflects a price increase of 5.5 percent from
the previous year.
