REPORT NO.: ESD-004-o2 PAGE 2 BACKGROUND AND COMMENT After approval in the 2001 Capital Budget, staff proceeded to send out a Request for Proposals to replace a 1979 pumper truck. Part of the proposal was the trade in of the 1979 pumper truck. The successful bidder, Advance Engineered Products Ltd., provided a discount in their proposal for the estimated trade-in value but informed staff they were not interested in the vehicle. Staff is now left to dispose of the vehicle. Durham College has expressed an interest in the vehicle to assist in their Fire Technology Program, and have offered to purchase it. Staff is requesting an opportunity to proceed with discussions with Durham College for the vehicle. Staff estimates the value of the vehicle at $3,500, being the same price offered as a discount by Advance Engineered Products Ltd. There are, in staff's opinion, two options to dispose of the vehicle. Firstly, donating it to Durham College, since Ontario Power Generation, Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, originally donated the truck to the Municipality when they no longer needed it. Clarington refurbished the vehicle and utilized it at Station #5, Enniskillen until a replacement was approved in 2001. Secondly, sell the vehicle for the estimated value to Durham College or any other interested party, if any exist. Staff's preference would be to donate the vehicle to Durham College, as it will assist the College in providing a better opportunity to the students for hands on experience.
