REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
MEETING OF APRIL 2, 1984

SUBJECT: MINISTRY OF GOVERNMENT SERVICES REGARDING ALARM
SYSTEM FOR BOWMANVILLE COURT HOUSE
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. That the Ministry of Government Services be given
approval to proceed with the installation of the
security alarm system in the Bowmanville Court House as
requested in their letter of March 27, 1984.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT
Staff have received a request from the Ministry of Government
Services for permission to install a security alarm system in
the Bowmanville Court House. The Attorney General ' s Office
sees these improved security systems as a priority since the
incident in 1983 when there was a shooting in a Toronto Court
building. This alarm system is provided for the use of the
judge, should he encounter a emergency situation. The alarm
system allows the judge to contact the Regional Police who
would then come to his assistance.
This is an electrical contract and all costs would be bourne
by the Ministry. The Ministry asks for our prompt reply as
they wish to proceed with this installation as soon as
possible.
