REPORT TO GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING
HELD FEBRUARY 20, 1984

SUBJECT: DISPOSAL OF SURPLUS ZAMBONI
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1 . that this report be received; and
2. that the Town of Newcastle accept the offer, in the amount of $1800.00,
from Municipal & Industrial Maintenance, Scarborough for the sale of
one only 1969 HDB Zamboni ice resurfacing unit; and
3. that the funds received be credited to account number 2900-X-13-4, Parks
& Recreation Equipment Reserve.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT
An attempt to dispose of the Zamboni via the 1983 Regional Auction did not
generate a buyer, although the successful bidder forfeited a $100.00 deposit. In addition,
to the first disposal method, a "Sale by Quotation" which was publicly advertised also
did not attract any bidders. Subsequently, after responding to an advertisement by
the Municipal & Industrial Maintenance, Scarborough, a bona fide offer was received, in
the amount of $1800.00. Staff recommends that Council accept this offer which is
quite reasonable considering the resale value for used ice resurfacing machines.
