REPORT TO GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING
HELD NOVEMBER 7, 1983

SUBJECT: TENDER T83-22, SNOW CLEARING & WINTER MAINTENANCE OF SIDEWALKS & PARKING LOTS
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1 . that this report be received; and
2, that Fairway Property Maintenance Ltd. , Bowmanville , Ontario with a bid
in the amount of $453.00 being the lowest responsible bidder meeting all
terms , conditions , and specifications of Tender T83-22 be awarded the
contract to provide snow clearing and winter maintenance to sidewalks
and parking lots as required by the Town of Newcastle for the 1983/84
winter season; and
3, that the funds expended be drawn from the 1983 and 1984 Public Works
Winter Maintenance budget.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT
Tenders were publicly advertised and called for the snow clearing and winter
maintenance of sidewalks and parking lots within the Town of Newcastle as required by
the Department of Public Works.
Tenders were received and tabulated as follows :

The above tendered amounts reflect the total cost to snow clear, sand and salt

all the locations specified in the tender for one time only. The locations , as tendered ,
are indicated on Schedule "A" attached.
In view of the fact that the low bidder is established within the area for
many years and has documented references , it was agreed by Purchasing and Public Works
that Fairway Property Maintenance , Bowmanville, Ontario be awarded the contract to
provide winter maintenance of sidewalks and parking lots , as tendered.
Recommendation of the low bidder represents a substantial cost saving
in relation to the previous years.
